Eating out in and around Bozel
Our local favourite is
Le Saint Roch 3, on the corner opposite Thomas Sports. Busy, friendly, and with good local food. Main place for tourists, who are welcomed. Best to book earlier in the day at peak times, just phone
0033 4 79 22 09 88. Only 2 minutes walk from the chalet.
For a much quieter atmosphere, and simple but superb home cooking, try
Le Bonrieu, on the main street, on
0033 4 79 22 05 46. Full range of pizzas, also excellent tartiflette. Combine with grandmere's soup for starters if you're really hungry! Just 3 minutes walk.
If you fancy a change and don't mind a short (10 minute) drive up to Champagny, we strongly recommend
La Poya, just past the main square on the right a little way up the hill. It overlooks the huge crags and is very welcoming. Their meat is stunning, and pierrade (hot granite block) a specialty, phone
0033 4 79 22 02 61 to book a table. You won't regret it!
Bars in Bozel
We always go to
Le Saint Roch 3. Its bustling and friendly, and you can sit outside if its warm. Other guests like
La Vanoise, along the main street in the Champagny direction it tends to have more locals than tourists.
Ski passes
Two options really. First is the Tourist Information Centre, on the main street opposite Spar. Order for Courchevel, or the entire Three Valleys. One person can nip in while the others are sorting equipment at Thomas Sports! Alternatively, the lift station at Le Praz sells them, so you can get them there and go straight up the hill. Both close at lunchtime so you need to plan around this.
Ski hire
Two shops in Bozel, Thomas Sports, on the corner opposite Le Saint Roch, or La Cage O Sport which is across the main road. We've had a good experience in both - they are friendly, helpful and welcoming. They are open every day from early til late, and they appreciate the custom from our chalet so will look after you well!
Food shopping
For general groceries, there is the 8 til 8, just next door to Thomas Sports on Rue du 8 Mai. Its the nearest (2 minutes walk), but small. Spar, on the main street is bigger. For a full shop, best to drive down to the Super U supermarket, on the left just as you approach Moutiers.
For fresh bread, there are two boulangeries. La Grignette is less than 2 minutes walk, perfect for breakfast croissants or baguettes! Its just opposite where the Champagny road leaves the main road through Bozel - where you turn each time to reach the chalet. Its nearly always open, but if it isn't there's another boulangerie (Le Caprice) on the main street near the Tourist Information office.
